Understanding Link Values Is Important For A SEO Money Back Guarantee
PageRank of the Host Page:
PageRank (PR) does not play as big a role today, as it used to a few years ago. Why most SEO’s don’t give a SEO Money Back Guarantee is because they commit the mistake of putting too much emphasis on PR. If you believe that PR is very important. However, it does not mean that we should ignore the PR altogether (a mistake that many SEO professionals do). A link from a Web page with high PR has a higher value than a link from a Web page with low PR. Although, there is a more important factor called Trust Rank that I will explain below.
Host page in links:
To assess the value of our inbound links on the host site, we must look at how many inbound links are there to the host side. We can easily do this by making use of Yahoo Site Explorer. The more inbound links on the host site, the more valuable the links most likely to be going out.
Please note that Yahoo is preferable to Google when it comes to controlling inbound links. This is because Google does not show all links.
Competition for power link:
Our backlink is probably not the only backlink to the host side. The more back links (outgoing links) there are on the host side, the lower is the power of the link flowing to our own site. We are being asked to share the link power by a host page with all the other links that are on the same page. Note that this applies both to internal and external links. The fewer links available on the host side, the more is the value of our own link. Not only that, Google has stated that it only follows the first 100 links on each page.
The host site trust rank:
The host side trusts rank (TR) currently has a very significant impact on the value of inbound links. Unfortunately, the TR, as opposed to PR, is a hidden dimension of a page’s strength. We can only make educated guesses about a page TR. I believe variety of factors is considered to affect a page’s TR. Institutions, universities and large organizations are usually considered to have high TR. A website with a high TR generally has can have a high PR (but not necessarily).but there is no connection between PR and TR. That being said, trusted organizations usually receive many inbound links, which usually also gives high PR.
As a side note, a link from a host page that itself has inbound links, such as from a university, often has a high value. Your inbound links, therefore need not come directly from the university to be valuable.
The host page’s relevance:
A key factor that determines how your inbound links are measured by Google is how relevant it is in the context in which the link is present. If you have a website about football and you have links from other football websites, the links would have more value. If the host page is about pregnancy fertility tests then it should link to other similar sites on the same or similar subjects. The limit of what can be considered as relevant is fluid and somewhat unclear because there is another school of thought that believes that relevancy in terms of content is a myth.
Link location on the host side:
Google has algorithms to detect paid links, advertising and link exchange. Purchased links are often located in the footer, sidelinks or blogroll. These links are generally less valuable than links that are placed in body of the text.
Inbound links anchor text:
Inbound links’ anchor text is very important for its value. Optimally, the anchor text should contain the words that we want to rank well on (our so-called keywords). A link with anchor text that contains the targeted “keyword” is thus much more valuable than a link with anchor text “click here”. For example business relocation or company locations are proper text links using keywords instead of generic terms.
Also note that it is that you vary the anchor text with other related keyword for your inbound links.
Link Exchanges:
Google does not approve of link exchange, because these types of links only exists to manipulate the searche engines. This means that links that come in through link exchanges often have a lower value than natural links. If you link to the host site and host site links to you, then this means value of your inbound links gets reduced. Many who work in SEO, therefore usually take part in the so-called multi-party exchanges( 3 way link exchanges), where the web page A links to B, B links to C links, C to D. D then either links to A or is owned by the same person as A.
Host IP, the C network and domain:
There is really no IP address that is better than the other. Every IP is the same for Google. However, it is not good if all your inbound links come from web pages hosted on the same IP and C networks. For example, a thousand inbound links from blogs hosted in WordPress.com is not as valuable as a hundred inbound links from blogs hosted by different blogging services.
Different types of links:
An anchor text plays a major role in the link’s value. But it is not always that a link has an anchor text. Sometimes, it may be embedded in an image. Overall, one can say that text links have a significantly higher value than image links. If an inbound link is an image link, it’ll be good if the image has so-called alt attributes. This increases image link’s value, but the text links are still preferable.
Search engine friendly link:
An inbound link should be search engine friendly. A search engine friendly link is normally written in plain html. Links with JavaScript redirects are not nearly as valuable as HTML links. Previously, search engines do not even used to follow such links. Today, search engines can detect JavaScript redirects, but such links are certainly of a much lower value.
Another important thing that you should check is that if your inbound links have “nofollow” tags. The nofollow tags in the source code instruct Google and other search engines not to follow the link. Forums and sites such as Wikipedia usually have nofollow links. However, ‘no follow link’ can be turned to ‘follow links’ easily if you know how (I will write about this later in my next article about my SEO Money Back Guarantee
