In order to achieve effective Google ranking in the shortest possible time, SEO can be broken down to doing three things exceptionally well. That is:
1) Writing unique quality, relevant, interesting, and valuable content for your readership.
2) Creating links on other websites about from your own that points back to your website (backlinks or Off-page SEO)
3) Optimising the content you have written for your website. Each page on the website should strike a good balance between readability and SEO search friendliness. (On-page SEO)
Before you start obviously you need to be clear on which keywords you are targeting for each page. I recommend to start by aiming for two keywords for each page. Later on advance strategies means you can aim for more keywords for each page, but two keywords per page is good place to start.
If the page already exists on your website then establish whether Google identifies as the priority page by typing in to Google search:
site:YourDomain.com “Keyword1”
Where “YourDomain.com” is your website, and “Keyword1” is one of your keywords.
If Google lists your targeted webpage at the top of the results, then you are onto a good start.
Following the guideline below will give you the best SEO optimized page. However, given a limited time you may able spend on each of your webpages, I have prioritised each one in order of importance.
1) Make sure that keyword is in your URL address for the page. The earlier that keywords appears in your URL the better. That is why domain names with keywords in them are ranked high for that keyword. Ideally twice , but no more than three times. The full page URL should not exceed 72 characters in length.
2) Page sure the page title has your keyword(s) in in exactly.
3) Make sure your meta description starts with your keyword followed by descriptive text that would encourage someone to click on your website. Each meta description should be contain unique text, have a call to action, and be no longer than 156 characters.
4) The content should have a minimum of 300 words or ideally 600 to 1,000 words on the page.
5) Enter the keyword in the H1, H2, or H3 headers tags. The the H1 header for instance for the keyword “science parks” could be something like “Science Parks in the UK “
6) Have at least one external clickable link pointing (use a keyword you will never use or a naked URL starting with http://) to an authority site related to your subject matter.
7) Insert a picture or video and make sure the file name contains the keyword. In addition the keyword should be in the image/video description or alt image tag.
8) Insert the keyword appropriately in the first sentence and the last paragraph.
9) Bold, or underline or italize the keyword somewhere on the page.
